An Elfchen for Spring Break

This week I have been on spring break. My husband and I have had the week off, but my children have had school. In the afternoons, we’ve been spending time outside together as a family, and I have been struck so many times by how much my boys are growing and changing. This inspired me to write a poem in the elfchen (or eleveny) style. An elfchen is a German poem 11 words long (each line has a set amount of words following a 1,2,3,4,1 pattern). I hope you enjoy it!

Remembrance:

Childhood,

long days

even shorter years,

innocence slips like sand

cherish.
